BogStandard – Harrogate Town FC
Last week I was approached by Harrogate Town FC to consult on the ‘Back in the Game’ initiative for men with Urinary Incontinence (UI) and today (11/2/25) I had a tour of the stadium facilities. The Club are going to adopt the ‘Gold Standard’ charter (see the link above, page 11) for men attending their home matches with UI / Prostate Cancer (PCa), who may also have the side effect of UI from their treatment. This involves placing ‘Male Incontinence Bins’ and ‘Help yourself Male Incontinence Vending’ machines at suitable locations around the stadium whilst raising awareness of PCa / UI (which they have already been of a huge support to The Dodgy Walnut). The initiative is fully supported by Prostate Cancer UK who will be putting up a display / stall / fundraising event at a future home game (to be arranged). We also discussed the installation of RADAR keys to the disabled toilets (inc. STOMA facilities) to avoid misuse / abuse of the facilities and keep them respectable for those of us who need access to them.
If you read the above article, the statistics are quite incredible and as somebody who has been incontinent, and will, no doubt be incontinent at some point in the future, I believe the provision of such facilities should be mandatory in this day and age. The club are really keen to encourage other English Football League clubs to adopt such facilities for those men who should be able to get out into the community and enjoy their football / sporting environment without the anxiety associated with incontinence.
