Our Mission

  • Our Mission is to provide peer support to anyone effected by Prostate Cancer within our locality that wishes to benefit from what we can offer
  • Our support offer is based on lived experience of our members and where needed a wider community of survivors and people living with prostate cancer.

Our Support Offer

We will offer our experience and insight to:

  • Support men through the diagnostic process and where necessary help them to understand their results and associated terminology.
  • Support decision making for treatment or active surveillance by allowing conversations with men that have lived experience of the various options, with the aim of ensuring that individuals make the right decision for their individual circumstances.
  • Seek to provide a buddy service for men that are going through the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer on their own.
  • Providing support for wives and partners of men diagnosed with prostate cancer recognising the important role they have, and the understanding that they need of the condition and it’s treatment, and peer support to cope with emotional impact.
  • Provide ongoing support during treatment and share experiences and learning.

How We Provide Support

  • We meet informally monthly on a face to face basis
  • We provide information about our group through our website and social media, ( Facebook), including a “contact us’ email address.
  • When requested and appropriate we will provide 1:1 support via Phone / Zoom / FaceTime.
  • We raise awareness of prostate cancer and the work of our group through attendance at mens health events and other groups.
  • We encourage people that have benefitted from support to join us and offer support to others to enable the group to become sustainable. However, there is no obligation to do so.

Our Values And Behaviours

  • We will be inclusive- prostate cancer doesn’t discriminate and neither do we.
  • We will respect that each persons joumey and experience with prostate cancer will be different. We welcome the diversity of views and experience.
  • During meetings we actively listen to others and encourge those that wish to share their experiences to do so.
  • We will treat all conversations as confidential and seek to create a psychologically safe space for group members to share their experience, concerns or anxieties.
  • We will show kindness, empathy and understanding and collectively seek to support colleagues.
  • We will recognise that peoples preferences to how they communicate and seek support will vary and we will try to meet those preferences where possible.
  • We will be honest of what we can and can’t do as a group in order to manage expectations of people’s external to the group.
  • We will, when possible promote the role of work of our group and collectively agree, when necessary, to adapt to best meet the needs of our members.
